Dermal fillers are Hyaluronic Acid gels. Once injected into the area of concern, they replace the lost volume, plump out the skin and reduce the signs of ageing.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body which is found in the deep layers of our skin. It provides support and structure to the skin. As we get older, our body gradually reduces production of HA resulting in visible signs of ageing:

• Skin becomes dehydrated, losing its radiance and youthful appearance
• Natural lines and wrinkles deepen
• Cheeks lose volume
• Lines appear around the mouth and nose area
• Lips lose volume

Weight loss often results in loss of volume in the facial area which can lead to a gaunt look.

Areas that we can treat include lips, cheekbones,  chin and jawline.

Following a thorough consultation (including medical history and consent), Dr McCowan will prescribe the appropriate product for your needs. The area is cleansed and the dermal filler is injected under the surface of the skin.

With most dermal fillers a result can be seen immediately. It takes a few months for things to totally settle to endpoint. The effects of the treatment can last anywhere between 9-24 months. This depends on the product characteristics of the dermal filler selected for you and which area we are treating.

We advise no exercise 24hrs post procedure and no makeup 24hrs post procedure. Apart from this there is generally no downtime. If a few syringes are planned it is best to have nothing sociable planned for a few days as there is always the theoretical risk of bruising. Saunas and steam rooms should be avoided for 7 days.
